Euphorbia ceratocarpa, Horned Spurge, Sicily Spurge, Yellow Flowers

Euphorbia ceratocarpa (Sicily Spurge) is a very showy, upright, evergreen perennial or sub-shrub with long narrow gray-green leaves adorned with a prominent midrib. Blooming over a long season, bright yellow-green flowers, held in small clusters, appear above the foliage from mid-summer to mid-autumn. They bloom year-round in mild winter areas. Remaining attractive during all its growing season, this remarkable plant is resilient to most pests and diseases, drought tolerant, and deer resistant. A bold focal point for sunny rock gardens or mixed borders.

  • Winner of the prestigious Award of Garden Merit of the Royal Horticultural Society for its noteworthy qualities.
  • Typically grows up to 3-4 ft. tall (90-120 cm) and 3 ft. wide (90 cm).
  • Performs best in full sun in light, well-drained soils.
  • Perfect for beds and borders, cottage gardens, or rock gardens.
  • No serious pest or disease issues. Keep an eye out for aphids or root and stem rots in wet conditions.
  • Cut back flowering stems as they fade.
  • Propagate by softwood cuttings in spring or early summer; dip cut surfaces in charcoal or lukewarm water to prevent bleeding.
  • All parts are highly toxic by ingestion. Sap may irritate the skin and eyes. Wear gloves and other protective equipment when handling.
  • Native to Sicily and southern Italy.
