An elegant deciduous tree with silvery bark that can attain great heights, e.g. over 30m. therefore not ideal for average gardens, though makes a strong statement when planted in large landscaped grounds.
The individual flowers are either male or female, but both sexes can be found on the same plant and are pollinated by Wind.
It features attractive and intricately cut, ovate leaves that turn a gorgeous shade of reddish brown in autumn.
It doesn't like frost though it can stand cold winters - therefore a sheltered woodland setting is best.
Warm summers though are not usually a problem.
