Ruellia chartacea is a compact shrub to one metre in height that is very eye catching when planted in a garden as the flower spikes poke through the surrounding dark green foliage making a spectacular contrasting display.
The flower spikes are made up of an unusual combination of long lasting brilliant red bracts and emerging from these are orange flowers. Its a fabulous combination providing a wonderfully exotic addition to shady borders and shrubberies.
Plant in a warm position in the garden as it is frost tender.
