This wonderful orchid prefers warm temperate conditions. The large strap-like leaves give a luxuriant feel all year around and the mauve flower stalks add striking colour from late winter through spring.
The flower head can be up to 40cm long, consisting of many small mauve flowers in terminal racemes. It has been noted that from a distance these can look like long thin mauve coloured bottlebrushes.
These plants like bright light (but not direct sun) and prefer dappled shade. They grow best in pots, for large displays try grouping a few pots together.
If growing inside then make sure the plants have enough light and air movement but are not in a draught. They also need good drainage and mist several times a week.
