Firefly was one of my first geeky loves! I put off cosplaying from it for a long time because I just wasn't sure which character to tackle (I love them all!) For a while I avoided Kaylee, because she's the most popular Firefly cosplay and I tend to prefer to stand out. But eventually this cheerful, wholesome cutie won me over!

For this costume, I hand-dyed the jumpsuit fabric and modified Simplicity 8060 to create the jumpsuit from scratch. The shirt is modified from a thrift store find. With a simple costume like this, the details are what take it to the next level — I weathered the jumpsuit using acrylic paint, and did my best Chinese calligraphy in Sharpie. Pretty shiny, don't you think?
