Over his remarkable career on the small screen, Beau Bridges has garnered 16 Emmy Award nominations, including three wins. This year, with his recurring role on “Homeland,” Bridges is well-positioned to add a 17th nomination to his awards resume, this time in Best Guest Drama Actor.
Bridges, portraying Vice President Ralph Warner, appeared in four episodes of the Showtime series this season: “Andante”; “Clarity”; “All In”; and the season finale, “Paean to the People.” Warner, who is on unsteady terms with his boss, the increasingly unpopular President Elizabeth Keane (Elizabeth Marvel), finds himself lobbied by Senator Sam Paley (Dylan Baker), an opponent of Keane’s, to help invoke the 25th Amendment to remove her from office. Warner indeed relieves a flabbergasted Keane of her duties but their antipathy, and Warner’s alliance with Paley, prove short-lived.

Of Bridges’ performance in “Clarity,” Brian Tallerico of Vulture wrote, “Beau Bridges rules. Always. While I wish his character had been more prominent all year to give this end game more heft, it’s nice to see him getting a juicy episode.”
Since 1992 and his victory in Best TV Movie/Limited Series Actor for “Without Warning: The James Brady Story,” Bridges has received additional Emmy nominations in that category for “Kissinger and Nixon” (1995), “Hidden in America” (1996), “P.T. Barnum” (1999) and “We Were the Mulvaneys” (2002).
He won Best TV Movie/Limited Series Supporting Actor for “The Positively True Adventures of the Alleged Texas Cheerleader Murdering Mom” (1993) and “The Second Civil War” (1997). Since then he has contended in that category once more for “Inherit the Wind” (1999).
In addition, he has reaped Best Drama Guest Actor bids for “The Outer Limits” (1995), “The Closer” (2010), “Brothers & Sisters” (2011) and “Masters of Sex” (2014 and 2015); Best Comedy Guest Actor nominations for “My Name Is Earl” (2007) and “Desperate Housewives” (2009); and Best Informational Special for producing “5 American Kids – 5 American Handguns” (1995).
