Dominic Cooper and Ruth Negga have decided to separate after eight years together, according to reports.

The couple - who starred opposite each other in AMC's critically-acclaimed Preacher - are reportedly "moving on" but "remain friends", a source told Page Six.

Harper's Bazaar has reached out for comment from their representatives.

The pair first met in 2009 while appearing in the play Phèdre for the National Theatre in London, and were most recently pictured together at press night performance of Hamilton in December last year.

Negga - who was Oscar-nominated for her role in Loving - previously spoke about her relationship with Cooper, the prospect of having children and the lack of support available for women returning to work afterwards.

"It would be so lonely if he wasn't there," Negga, 36, said about working with Cooper, 39, to The Edit.

"People say, 'Never go out with an actor.' But if you were with someone with a normal job, and one of you had to go away, how would that work?"

On having children, she ruminated: "By the time you're in a great relationship, it's like, oh, I'm 35. S***.

"So there is part of your thinking that is: Do I want kids? When? If? How? [...] It's there, all the time, preoccupying me.

"And that's not being an actor, it's being a woman. I don't know what [job] really creates a safe space for a woman to have time out, prolong the human race, and return to work in a very supportive way."
