Elizabeth Debicki plays Princess Diana in the upcoming season of The Crown, and for the show's premiere in London last night, the actress nodded to one of the royal's most memorable fashion moments.

She arrived on the red carpet for the premiere of the fifth season of the popular Netflix series – which follows the story of the royal family – and emulated Diana's style in a beautiful Christian Dior couture gown. She teamed it with diamond Dior jewellery and Manolo Blahnik heels.

Royal fans may have noticed that Debicki's red-carpet ensemble looked very similar to the blue Catherine Walker dress that Diana wore to the Cannes Film Festival in 1987.

Debicki's gown resembled Diana's baby blue dress as both featured a strapless neckline, a flowing shape and a matching neck scarf that effortlessly falls behind. The Crown star's black dress emulated this elegant silhouette, but with a modern twist, as it crossed at the back, and revealed a little more skin.

Both accessorised with red-carpet-worthy jewels; Debicki wore Dior's Bois de Rose rings, bracelets and earcuffs in yellow gold, pink gold and diamonds as well as Rose Dior Couture earrings in pink gold and diamonds from Dior Joaillerie. Princess Diana added aquamarine and diamond chandelier earrings and matching bracelet to her look.

Debicki was joined on the red carpet by a number of her co-stars, all of whom are also new to The Crown this season. Imelda Staunton is taking on the role of the Queen, while Lesley Manville will play Princess Margaret, Jonathan Pryce will play Prince Philip and Dominic West will star alongside Debicki as Prince Charles.

Season five will be set in the 1990s, which was a very dark decade for the royal family. It has been released on Netflix today. For everything you need to know about the final two seasons of The Crown, head this way.
