The public first got word of the "Disaster Movie" star's emergency hospitalization when his wife Angela Lanter made an Instagram post detailing the events of the past week and describing the experience as, "the scariest of my life." In a black-and-white photo of the couple holding hands, viewers saw a close-up of the actor's hand with a hospital admissions bracelet wrapped around his wrist.
As per her Instagram post, Angela writes, "My hubby has been through the ringer since Tuesday and ended up in emergency surgery on Thursday." While no cause or related health condition has been shared, Angela touched on what her husband's recovery will look like as fans and loved ones expressed via social media their support and wishes for a full and speedy recovery.

Angela went on to share via Instagram how her husband's recovery process is sure to be slow but steady, writing, "Thankfully he's started to turn the corner and is slowly getting on the road to recovery ... We still have an uphill battle and will continue to be in the hospital for a while longer, so prayers are definitely still appreciated."
In addition to expressing gratitude for the love and support pouring in from thousands online, Angela also acknowledged the dedicated work of the nurses and hospital staff involved in Matt's treatment and recovery, writing, "We are so thankful to the awesome nurses, they are the real heroes."
