Terence Chang graduated from the Academy’s School of Drama with a first-class Bachelor of Fine Arts (Honours) Degree, majoring in Directing. Supported by the HKAPA, Terence has completed his Master Degree Course in Applied Theatre at London Royal School of Speech and Drama.

Terence has a wide spectrum of directed work. His directed Musicals include Leaving (Hong Kong Musical Theatre Federations with Hong Kong Arts Festival), Grease, The King and I, Joseph and the Technicolor Dreamcoat (HKAPA Summer School Musical Theatre Production), Falling in Love with Her and Angel in the Street(Springtime Experimental Stage), Nonsense Maker(Ben & Benson Productions), Suz‧Impression(Perry Chiu Production, Hong Kong premier, re-run & Shanghai re-run), Dance Again(Christian Prison Pastoral Fellowship Fund Raising Musical), The Legend of Love(Hong Kong Chinese Orchestra), Against the Wind(LplusH Creations), Beyond the Line(Tung Wah Musical); dance theatre include A Beautiful Life and Children's Prayers(DanceArt Hong Kong) and Luv 70%(Hook Dance Theatre).

Terence’s other directed works include The Three Stories of Hong Kong Women(hosted by Hong Kong Fringe Club), Tang Bik-wan Visiting Macau(Macau Arts Festival Opening Programme), Uncle Ball and Auntie Fatty(Hong Kong premier and Macau re-run), Perfume (Springtime Experimental Stage), Glass Menagerie(Girlittlehouse), The Sword from Heart and The Legend of Li Bai(Semantic Theatre), Summer and Smoke and Daddi(Class 7A Drama Group Limited), Of Mice and Men(Theatre Noir), Laramie Projects: 10 Years Later and My Dad, My Son and My Daughter…: Fantasia on Fathers and Sons (Pants Theatre Production).

Terence also participated in directing of opera.  He has directed Mozart’s opera Magic Flute with Ella Kiang Singers and directed Il Trovatore Act IV by Verdi.  Terence has also directed Die Fledermaus by Johann Strauss with City Opera.

Invited by Cantonese opera group Hung Tin Tong, Terence has directed the Cantonese Opera Lotus Lantern.

In performances, Terence has taken the role of Oscar Wilde in Gross Indecency: The Three Trials of Oscar Wilde (Pants Theatre Production) and was nominated as Best Actor (Tragedy/Drama) by Drama Federations Association.  Terence took up the role Oscar Wilde again in the stage reading of David Hare’s The Judas Kiss.  Recently he has been the role of Xu Zhimo in music programme Xu Zhimo & Schubert’s Schwanengsang (RhapsoArts) and it will be re-run in Mainland at November 2019.

Terence has also devoted much on community work.  He has worked at Teen AIDS and was the Project Coordinator of Hong Kong Sex/AIDS Education Drama Festival and Art Against AIDS Programme. Terence has been invited to Shanghai to direct an educational theatre work about AIDS, The Dying Kiss, for The Shanghai Dramatic Arts Center. The work was awarded the Gold Prize and Best Actor Award at the China Population and Culture Award.

Terence has been the Executive committee member of Arts with the Disabled Association Hong Kong (ADAHK) for nearly 10 years.  He has been invited to direct Beauty and the Beast (Hong Kong Deaf Association) in the International Festival of Inclusive Arts, then he was invited to rehearse the edition for Japan rerun.    In the meantime, he was appointed as ex-officio at HKAPA, in the scheme of caring company, to motivate partnership initiatives among public, business and charitable organization.  Last year Terence lined up, polished the script, and consulted directing of The Path Together which gained very many positive feedback from dramatists and critics.  And recently he was appointed as co-chair of Programme Committee.

Terence is now teaching courses in Directing and Drama & Theatre Education at BFA and MFA level.  His school productions include The Legend of Li Bai, Rope of Love, The House of Bernarda Alba, The Book, A Hong Kong Shopping Mall Odyssey: Searching for the Happy Man, Happy Family, Macbeth, True Lies and Luna Gale.  He was invited to re-run Rope of Love outside school.  The Book was arranged to have re-run in schools at West New Territories and North District.  Shopping Mall Odyssey was also arranged for youth in schools to watch.  Macbeth was also the closing programme of the 10^th Chinese Drama Festival.

Luna Gale was awarded Outstanding Productions of the Year at the 28th Hong Kong Drama Awards and received Outstanding Performance at the 11th Hong Kong Theatre Libre and the main cast Luk Ka-ki was awarded Outstanding Lead Actress.

Terence is now assessor of Hong Kong Arts Development Council drama sub-group, Programme Co-chair and Executive Committee member of The Arts with the Disabled Association Hong Kong (HKADA), Board member to the Class 7A Drama Group Limited, a member of The Hong Kong Federation of Drama Societies and advisor of editorial board for TEFO quarterly magazine TEFOzine.

Terence is invited to be a member in the Art Form Panels (Theatre Panel) in the Programme and Development Committee at LCSD, tasked to advise LCSD on the strategies of performing arts programmes (locals, Mainland and overseas), formulate structured and sustainable strategies in identifying and supporting the development of budding and small-scale performing arts groups.  Hong Kong Council for Accreditation of Academic & Vocational Qualifications (HKCAAVQ) has also appointed Terence as specialist on accreditation panels and to advise on the latest developments in respective fields.

Terence was awarded the Hong Kong Drama Professionalism Award in recognition of his endeavours in educational theatre.  In 2018, Terence was further awarded Certificate of Commendation, commended for making outstanding achievements in the development of arts and culture.
