International rising star Tahar Rahim has signed with UTA, The Hollywood Reporter has learned.
Rahim first attracted attention with the 2009 foreign-language Oscar nominee A Prophet. In his first starring role, the French actor played a young Arab man who is sent to prison and gradually amasses power there. The role won him France’s Cesar Awards for most promising actor and best actor.
Last year, Rahim starred opposite The Artist’s Berenice Bejo in Iranian director Asghar Farhadi’s domestic drama The Past, which played in competition at Cannes to rave reviews. Rahim again garnered praise for his performance, here as a melancholy man living with Bejo while his own wife is in a coma. He also starred opposite Palme d’Or winner Lea Seydoux in the Cannes Un Certain Regard entry Grand Central (later earning a Lumiere nomination for best actor for that role).

In the past two months, Rahim has starred in Armenian Genocide drama The Cut, as well as the French dramedy Samba, appearing opposite Omar Sy and Charlotte Gainsbourg. He is next set to star opposite John Hurt and Samantha Morton in the six-episode heist thriller The Last Panthers from CanalPlus and Sky Atlantic. Rahim will play a French-Algerian police officer searching for stolen diamonds.
Rahim continues to be repped by France’s Agence Adequat.
