Jason Isaacs has landed a meaty gig.
The British actor, one of the most sought after during the past two pilot seasons, will star in USA Network‘s six-part event series Dig from Tim Kring (Heroes) and Gideon Raff (Homeland), The Hollywood Reporter has learned.
Dig, from Universal Cable Productions, explores the world of Peter (Isaacs), an FBI agent stationed in Jerusalem who, while investigating the murder of an archeologist, uncovers a conspiracy 2,000 years in the making that threatens to change the course of history. The series was developed by Keshet, in association with BermanBraun.
STORY: USA Orders Event Series From Tim Kring, ‘Homeland’ Co-Creator
Isaacs starred in NBC’s short-lived dual reality drama Awake from Lone Star creator Kyle Killen in 2012, and he toplined the CBS drama pilot The Surgeon General, which did not go to series in 2013. He is currently filming NBC miniseries Rosemary’s Baby opposite Zoe Saldana and Patrick J. Adams in Europe. Isaacs’ Dig casting keeps him in the NBCUniversal family.
Dig will film on location in Jerusalem, as well as other international locales. It is being eyed for a late 2014 premiere.
Keshet Media Group CEO Avi Nir, Gail Berman, Lloyd Braun and Gene Stein of BermanBraun will serve as executive producers, along with Kring and Raff. British director S.J. Clarkson (Hunted, Whitechapel) will direct the first episode.
Isaacs, also known as Lucius Malfoy in the Harry Potter franchise, is repped by Gersh and Silver Lining Entertainment. He has a slew of upcoming projects in various stages, including next starring in David Ayer‘s Fury opposite Brad Pitt and the anthology film Rio, I Love You.
