Love this chainsaw! Bought it last Friday, used it a good chunk of the day Saturday, didn't miss a beat! It's lightweight, yet powerful. All my outdoor power equipment is Echo and was looking for a bigger saw, glad I got this one. Well worth the $300

This Chainsaw gets the job done.
We had bad storms June 1st and took down an 80 foot Bradford pear tree in two huge pieces. It was like having two tree's down at one time, with the bases both 16 inches across. CS-400, you will not regret it.

Hi there, I really liked this saw until chain brake nearly caught fire after a minute or 2 of running. Smoke everywhere and loud whistleing. Only had 30 minutes total run time on this saw. now it whistles and makes all kinds of noises, runs really rough and will not start or run with the brake on. It will only start with the brake off and it turns on at about 50 % throttle. IThere Warranty repair shop will not cover and said that the chainbrake cant be on while in idle. So im stuck with a broken saw

I use this saw 3-5 days per week. I cut trees into logs then split for my Central Boiler (Outdoor Wood stove). I burn wood all year around except for maybe 2 month during summer. So I cut a lot of wood. I buy logging trucks full of trees. This saw has really surprised me in a good way! Starts right up every time. I used it now for over a year and never needed to change spark plug or filter (but I plan to soon). lol The bar oil cap did break but no big deal I bought a new one for $3. I think it broke due to me over tightening it. I think this is a great saw for an inexperienced person. It is light weight as well. I'm very pleased with my saw and I plan to buy a bigger echo chain saw later this year.

I cut a lot firewood and I haven't had this saw overheat on me once. It's easy to start and pretty powerful. It only has an 18" bar, yet it's easy enough to cut through trees wider than that as long as the protective tip isn't installed. The instructions say not to adjust the carburetor until using at least two tanks of gas. I did, anyway, as carbureted engines don't work well above 8000' (where I live) without adjustment -- worked fine after adjustment. The only complaint I have is that the tensioner screw is located in the plastic cover to the bar/clutch/sprocket assembly rather than on the saw body itself, making it (marginally) more difficult to reassemble.

        Great saw!!!
I own 3 other echo products Hedge Trimmer-HC-150, Blower-PB-260L, Weed Trimmer-SRM-230, they all have worked flawless. Tune up parts have been easily available.. After filling up with 50:1 89 octane gas and chain/bar oil, it started right up. I used it to cut down 2 50ft tree

I purchased the Echo to replace a electric chain saw after a storm uprooted our pine tree in the back yard, the saw performed perfectly and made quick work of the clean up. The build quality is nice nothing feels cheaply made and it is a solid saw.

I like everything about this saw. From the metal chain guard to the adjustable oiler. Oh and the 5 year warranty. I cut a truckload of mesquite every month and this beast hasn't skipped a beat. Just wish the handle was a little thicker.... its built for baby hands.

          Great saw but leaks oil
Ok, i got this paticular saw a few days ago cause i love Echo products. Well i gas up the saw to try it out and cuts really well like a knife through butter, but the problem im having with the saw is a few things. 1) its leaks oil real bad from somewhere under the saw, even if you to make adjust the setting to make it use less oil it stll leaks bad cause i found oil all in the under side of the saw and dripping off the blade. its suppose to use some to lubricate the chain but its not to leak oil while using it and when its not in use. That may be a defect on this paticular model CS-400 im hoping. 2) The chain came loose a little after a few cuts so i tried to tighten it back but the tensioner setting screw doesnt seem to work very well cause i had a hard time trying to get the right tension on the chain. So i took this saw back and exchanged for a second unit cause i thought the first was defective and when i got the second one, the exact same problems happened. I just ended up returning this saw, so i'll be looking for a different Echo model, hopefully one that doesnt leak oil. Please be careful if you buy or have this saw cause it will leak alot of oil like mine did.

            Cuts Like Butter
The echo was exactly what I expected. Heard great reviews about it from people who constantly use it and it has not let me down. The saw works like a charm. I expect this product to last me quite some time.

Need a saw to deal with several downed trees after a recent wind storm.
Easy to use, light handling, cuts like butter, starts easy. Expect it to last a long time. Looking forward to the next project!

            Echo CS-400
Great Chain saw for aggressive homeowner. I have owned and used many other saws. most of the home-owner models are just garbage. I bought this saw and used it to cut 4 cords of hardwood. I had no problems what so ever! I have seen both good and bad reviews on this saw and was a little hesitant. To break in saw I let it Idle for 15-20 minutes day before using the saw the first time. I used premium gas, echo 2 stroke oil, keep the blade sharp and lubed. simple routine and the saw operated perfect! I really like the automotive style filter, very simple and affective. the saw is lighter than husky and stihl. the on/off switch is metal and easy to use with gloves on. the couple of Items I wish were changed is the size of the fuel tank. shorter run time than others...but is a great way to make sure the chain oil reservoir is kept full every time you have to fill gas! I suppose that also keeps the weight down. The 40CC engine is great for most applications but a slightly larger engine would be nice option.

Works great just be careful not to touch the ground with it. My son did and broke the chain. We replaced it and it's good to go now.

            Very nice chain saw
I had a Poulan chain saw for 10 years that finally died. I purchased this saw and it has worked great. I've cut a lot of wood with it and starts and runs great. I read from some pro operators that if I used 89 fuel and added an ethanol stabilizer to the fuel that this newer engines will run great and it has. The hand fatigue after 8 hours of cutting is much less my previous chain saw. I wished I would have bought this saw years ago instead of struggling with Poulan. I also purchased an 18" PowerSharp bar, chain and stone that helps so much with keeping the chain sharp.

            This chainsaw rips
Adjusted the carb right out of the box. Put in pre-mix fuel and bar chain oil. Pumped primer once and it started. I went through 1 tank of fuel. Saw worked like a champ right out of the box. Very happy after reading some of the bad reviews.

Had trouble with chain coming off.
I purchased this to cut up a large boxelder tree that had fallen in my yard. The unit comes with 2 cycle oil but doesn't come with bar and chain oil. So I had to run back and purchase that before using it. It worked pretty well out of the box but I was constantly having to adjust the chain tension and it came off a number of times. Finally I think the chain got damaged and the saw wouldn't work properly. I exchanged it at Home Depot the next day with no problem. The second unit worked much better. The chain never came off but by the end of the day I think the chain had become dull because it was smoking trying to cut through big logs, even though it was properly oiled. I will also disclose that, while I am pretty well versed at using tools, I haven't used a chain saw before so it is possible that I may have been doing something wrong. But I did read through the directions first and installed the blade guard as well. So, I don't know if a day or two of work should result in a dull chain or if it's normal for a chain to come off.

Great chainsaw for the money. I just used it to clear out some stumps, it did what I needed it for and I was surprised by how much power it had. It was easy to start, never stopped, until I wanted it to.

              Great buy
Fair price for a quality chainsaw. At first I didn't like the case but now I love it. I work this saw hard on a farm in northern Illinois and it has handled everything I've thrown at it. As long as you take the time to touch up the chain with a file every has fill up or so this thing is unstoppable.

This is a topnotch chainsaw, more than powerful enough for most users. I purchased the 18” version and took down some pretty thick trees with no problem. A tank of gas seems to last about two hours of steady use. The gas tank is located for easy filling. The oil tank is partially blocked by the chain brake handle, but it still has enough clearance to fill from the bottle without using a funnel. The clutch cover is easily removed for chain replacement, and the chain tensioner is very easy to adjust using the supplied tool. The only issue I had was with the chain stop, a small aluminum bracket that’s probably OSHA mandated. I was cutting cedars—a lot of them. Despite my best efforts, sometimes branches would fall/bounce off other branches, knocking the chain off the bar. The chain stop definitely prevents the chain from damaging the saw or operator, but it tends to damage the chain. Prepare to use a file, as some chain links will no longer fit in the bar until the damaged edges are filed flat again. Perhaps this could be made with brass or some other sacrificial material that wouldn’t damage the chain? I think this “feature” is now on all new chainsaws.
