Swipe through actor's James Van Der Beek's latest Instagram post, where he debuted his newly redesigned crib, and you'll want to move in stat. Prior to the pandemic lockdown in California, the Dawson's Creek alum and his wife Kimberly tapped Tammy Price of Fragments Identity to restyle the Beverly Hills home where they live with their five children. Let's just say she gave them a cozy space perfect for relaxing in—a hygge haven, if I do say so myself.

Architectural Digest got the scoop from James and Kimberly Van Der Beek, who until now, had never really played with their interiors. “Our home was a crazy jumble of pieces from different places we’d lived in before, all commingling, but not very happily," James Van Der Beek told AD. "I called it the Island of Misfit Furniture,” he joked. Luckily, they found just the right person to rejuvenate their space.

"We were thrilled Tammy wanted to work with us," said Kimberly, a long-time fan of Fragments Identity, which is Price's online design studio and store. For this family-of-seven, flexibility was pertinent to this home's redesign, Kimberly explained. They needed easy-to-move furniture to accommodate not only their kids, but hosting events. In their initial talks with Price, they spoke of a home that was "tribal and spa-like." While those two qualities often don't go hand-in-hand, Price was able to spin this family a new home that checked off all those boxes and then some.

Designer Tammy Price chose a soft color palette, but revved-up the home with an assortment of textures.

For the interiors of the 1930's Spanish Colonial-style home, Price opted for a mostly white and neutral color scheme and an array of textures. "We kept the color to a minimum but added a lot of different textures—kilim-covered pillows, sheepskin upholstery, flokati rugs—to make the home a richer experience," she told AD. She specifically chose outdoor and performance fabrics that were both durable and easy to clean (ahem, take notes, parents!).

teepees in children's playroom

Kimberly Van Der Beek says the teepees in the children’s playroom are a "godsend."

Some personal favorites of the family include the teepees Price added to the children's playroom. "That’s where the kids have pillow fights and set up their doll stations," James says. "When they have homework, we just say, ‘Go to the tepee!’ It’s perfect." Price also the made a special spot for a Van Der Beek handmade furnishing. James had designed a daybed all by himself after his last child was born. “I kept worrying that I would transpose numbers and screw it all up, but it came out great,” he said of his creation. Luckily, Price loved it just as much and was able give it a whole new life, poolside. Who knew James could design, too?

"The overall impression is tranquil and welcoming, but there’s still plenty of great energy here,” James said of his family's new home. In other words: No bad vibes for the Van Der Beek crew. "I can’t overstate how big an impact Tammy has had on our day-to-day lives,” he concluded. “She treated us with so much care and love. We feel it every time we walk through the front door.” You can check out the full story on AD.
