Aptosimum Lineare

It is a low growing perennial herb or subshrub, often forming compact, prostrate cushions, sometimes erect and tufted. Leaves linear-oblong to narrowly oblanceolate with glandular hairs, particularly on the upper surface. Flowers deep blue to violet, darker near the centre. This perennial dwarf shrub is very floriferous. It starts flowering early in Spring and it lasts into late Autumn. It prefers very well drained sandy soil and should be treated as a succulent. Aptosimum lineare is called Carpet flower or Karoo violet and is native to South Africa. It forms carpets of up to 1 m diameter and about 20 cm height. In full bloom it is covered with dark blue or violet, trumpet-shaped flowers.
