Autobahn Polizei, like its predecessor, is based on the German television show Alarm for Cobra 11, which follows the stories of highway patrol officers on the fabled motorway. But where the first game was linear, the sequel will be an open-world, mission-based affair.
The first game did not fare well with critics, receiving a meager 3.5 rating from IGN. But Conspiracy tells us they've gone back to the drafting table with the sequel, citing improved graphics and a new overall design approach.
The Entertainment Software Ratings Board describes Autobahn Polizei as an action racing game where players solve cases, unlock levels and cars and perform missions to protect the citizenry (and yes, escort missions have been confirmed). Crashes will also figure heavily in the game, some realistic, some not so much.
According to the ESRB, "during one sequence, players can drive onto a field and plow into cows, which shatter into 'cartoony' t-bone steaks upon impact." Sounds like just another Saturday night to us.
No release date or platform info has been set for Autobahn Polizei just yet, but the ESRB only lists Xbox 360. The previous Autobahn game was exclusive to Microsoft's platform.
