Yellow germander

Teucrium flavum is a perennial herb or shrub of the family Lamiaceae, with branches that are more or less square in cross-section, leaves arranged in opposite pairs, and flowers arranged in thyrses, the corolla with mostly white to cream-coloured, with lobed petals.

Appearance

They are rounded subshrubs that reach 50 cm in height when they flower. The interesting bright green foliage is composed of leathery leaves with a crenate margin and opposite arrangement. The flowers are spur-shaped and can be light yellow or creamy-white. They bloom from mid spring to early summer.

Distribution

This species is native to Western mediterranean.

Habitat

The typical habitat for this plant are the rocks and stony slopes; but also xeric environments, Mediterranean shrubs and low garrigue. The preferred substrate is calcareous with basic pH, low nutritional values ​​of the soil which must be arid.
