Location: Kidderminster

Kidderminster is a small town in the Wyre Forest district of Worcestershire; just south-west of Birmingham City Centre and a 20 minute train ride from Worcester. The town is pretty centrally located in the local area and is one of the larger towns in the district of Wyre Forest.

Not too big and not too small, Kidderminster offers a wide range of things to do and see; from the carpet museum and the local cinema to walking along the canals and events at the town hall.

Situated in the heart of the town, Kidderminster College is within easy walking distance of the local train and bus station and right next to the library.

With the Kidderminster Harriers FC, Severn Valley Railway and West Midland Safari Park on our doorstep, there’s always something happening in the town and local area, make sure to check out the What’s On Website for the latest events and shows.

Food and Drink

There’s a whole host of food and drink hotspots in Kidderminster town. A two minute walk from the college and you’ve stumbled upon Kidderminster’s latest establishments; Coffee#1 that serves frothy coffees and juicy smoothies at discounted prices for KC’s staff and students, Bistrot Pierre is situated next door, a chain restaurant that serves traditional French cuisine, followed by Tappeto Lounge, a quirky chilled back restaurant that serves tasty food including a whole host of vegan options. Enjoy a lunch on the riverside terrace at either establishment whilst overlooking the river Stour.  Kidderminster has a whole host of coffee shops dotted around town including; Cosy Café, Costa and Caffè Nero to name a few.

Thursdays are market day, alongside stalls of clothes, jewellery and household essentials you can find street food stalls including Jacket potatoes, Chinese delights and burgers. There’s something for everyone.

Kidderminster also has a McDonald’s that is a short walk from the college as well as Greggs, Pizza Hut and Marks and Spencers Café.

Because of our location, Kidderminster College is perfectly placed for a shopping trip. With a variety of high street brand stores including WHSmith, Game, Pandora, Superdrug and Card Factory, the redeveloped town centre is really worth a visit. Then, there’s the new Weaver’s Wharf shopping area. Located next to the River Stour, Weavers Wharf has an excellent range of shops and restaurants, to browse, including New Look, TK Maxx, Boots, Next and Marks and Spencers. Further afield (a quick walk across town or along the canal) is our local retail park; Sainsburys, Currys, The Range, Pets at Home and Costa have all your needs covered.

Museum of Carpets

Did you know Kidderminster is renowned for it’s carpets? Discover over 300 years of Kidderminster’s integral history.  The museum of Carpet houses an extensive collection of objects, archives, books and photographs relating to the carpet industry dating from the 18th century to the present day.

West Midland Safari Park

At #TeamKC we love West Midland Safari Park, especially because our Animal Care students work at the Safari Academy.  West Midland Safari park is a short drive to Bewdley and is a great family day out.  The park holds over 165 species of exotic animals, among other attractions such as a small theme park. The park contains the largest groups of white lions, cheetahs, hippopotami, and meerkats in the UK, as well as the largest lemur walk-through exhibit.

Timberjacks

Enjoy a session of axe throwing with your mates at Timberjacks.  Go along and immerse yourself in one ofhistories oldest lumberjack sports.

Severn Valley Railway

The Severn Valley Railway is situated a ten minute walk from the College and is an ideal day out for the family. The Severn Valley Railway is a heritage railway in Shropshire and Worcestershire, England. The 16-mile heritage line runs along the Severn Valley from Bridgnorth to Kidderminster, crossing the Shropshire/Worcestershire border, following the course of the River Severn for much of its route.

Kidderminster Harriers Football Club

Kidderminster Harriers Football Club is a professional association Football club in Kidderminster, the Harriers participate in the National League, the fifth tier of English football.  They are the only club in Worcestershire to have played in the Football league (2000 – 2005). Cycle lanes and Council Investments

Kidderminster is part of the Wyre Forest District who encourages residents to live an active lifestyle. Kidderminster town and the whole of the Wyre Forest is full of cycle lanes and cycle routes. Check out popular cycle routes, clubs and more!

The council have made a number of positive steps in terms of creating a greener and cleaner local environment including; street clean ups with fast food providers, maintaining 400 acres of nature reserves and 600 acres of park and open green spaces, investment in CCTV to tackle Enviro-crimes (fly-tipping and litter) and lots more!

Wyre Forest Leisure Centre

At Kidderminster College we do a whole host of activities at the Wyre Forest Leisure Centre including; football, rock climbing and lots more. With a swimming pool, a gym and classes it’s a great hub for sports.
