Why Fall sunrises are so impressive in Oklahoma

Autumn sunrises and sunsets very vivid

Oklahoma has amazing sunrises and sunsets year-round, but as we move into the fall and winter they seem to be even more intense. Have you noticed that? It's because of our weather. Different colors are different wavelengths.  Blue light has a short wavelength, so it's scattered the easiest. Longer wavelengths, like reds and oranges, aren't scattered as much. During sunrise and sunset, the light must pass through a lot of the atmosphere, and by the time it reaches our eyes, most of the blue has been scattered and we can't see it. When the humidity is lower, as it typically is in the fall and winter, more of the reds and oranges show during the sunrise and sunset, bringing even more amazing colors! We love seeing your photos.  You can always send them to us on the uLocal section of the KOCO app or on social media.
