Joss Stone 'murder plot': Profile of the soul singer in pictures

1) Born on the 11 April 1987 in Dover, Joss left school aged sixteen with three GCSEs which she puts down to her dyslexia. "It wasn't that I was stupid. I'm just a little bit dyslexic and I wasn't very academic. I'm more artistic", she said.

2) Joss made her mark in the music industry in late 2003 with her multi-platinum debut album The Soul Sessions, which made the 2004 Mercury Prize shortlist.

3) Her second album, Mind Body & Soul (which also went multi-platinum) topped the UK Album Chart for one week and included the top ten singles hit ‘You Had Me’, her most successful single on the UK Singles Chart to date. "I think my singing is so much better on this album", she said.

4) Both album and single each received one nomination at the 2005 Grammy Awards and she became the youngest British female singer to top the UK Album Chart to have her first album at number one. She also won British Female Solo Artist and British Urban Act and was nominated for British Breakthrough Act 2005 BRIT Awards. Joss performed "Angels" with Robbie Williams during the ceremony.

5) Joss made her film acting debut in late 2006 as a fortune teller and herbalist in the fantasy adventure film Eragon, following up with her debut in a TV show by portraying Anne of Cleves in 2009 in The Tudors.

7) Speaking with what was perceived as American accent at the 2007 BRIT Awards, Joss reacted: "At the end of the day, I don't give a fuck if people have a problem with my accent. That's all I can say about it. The words I say do not change. If the way that it sounds is skew-wiff and you don't like it, don't listen. I'm not being a cruel person by sounding a different way. And I can't help it. I've been [in America working] since I was, like, 14."

8) In December 2007,  Joss was named the new Flake girl to star in a series of television ads - the first non-model to take the role.

9) It was rumoured that Joss was asked personally by Barack Obama to write and record a song for his presidential campaign. This claim was refuted during am interview where she explained that she initially wrote the song about the British government. Listen to ‘Governmentalist’ in the video player below.
