Nitschkia grevillei
The fruit bodies are black, initially spherical, but the upper part of each sphere collapses to form shallow cups. The surface is covered with warts, and at the centre top, there is a tiny nipple-like ostiole, through which the spores escape at maturity. Up to 0.5 mm diameter.
They fruit in groups, on a blackish hyphal subiculum which covers the surface of the host. Found on decaying wood from deciduous trees, including that of Oak, Willow, Sycamore and Ash.
Fruiting from autumn to spring.
