What's better than one EGOT winner? Two.

How to Watch

Watch The Voice Mondays and Tuesdays at 8/7c on NBC and next day on Peacock.

Jennifer Hudson Show host Jennifer Hudson invited fellow Emmy, Grammy, Oscar and Tony winner John Legend to visit her on the 100th episode of her talk show in 2023, where the pair performed a beautiful cover of "Bridge Over Troubled Water". The clear gospel influences from the two former choir singers will transport you to church.

The song is by singer-songwriter duo Paul Simon and Art Garfunkel, and famously covered by the late icon Aretha Franklin. In their rendition, Voice Coaches Legend and Hudson give the song plenty of soul, and Hudson especially shows off her incredible vocal control. Check it out farther down.

What to know about "Bridge Over Troubled Water" by Simon & Garfunkel

Written by Paul Simon and released in 1970, the song is the title track for Simon and Garfunkel's final album together. It became a best-selling single and is one of the pair's signature hits, winning Song Of The Year at the 1971 Grammys.

A split of John Legend and Jennifer Hudson

About the central metaphor's origins, Garfunkel explained that there is no physical bridge that inspired it. "'Bridge Over Troubled Water' is a gospel phrase which Paul took from a gospel group. It was in a Baptist church hymn. He liked the phrase and he used it," he revealed in a 2003 interview.

The lyrics deliver a simple but potent message about helping someone stay out of harm's way and keeping them safe through the rougher periods of life. As he told Hudson, Legend is a fan of the track, including it on an album and performing it in concert.

The lyrics to "Bridge Over Troubled Water" by Simon & Garfunkel

When you're weary
Feeling small
When tears are in your eyes
I'll dry them all
I'm on your side
Oh, when times get rough
And friends just can't be found

Like a bridge over troubled water
I will lay me down
Like a bridge over troubled water
I will lay me down

When you're down and out
When you're on the street
When evening falls so hard
I will comfort you
I'll take your part
Oh, when darkness comes
And pain is all around

Like a bridge over troubled water
I will lay me down
Like a bridge over troubled water
I will lay me down

Sail on silver girl
Sail on by
Your time has come to shine
All your dreams are on their way
See how they shine
Oh, if you need a friend
I'm sailing right behind

Like a bridge over troubled water
I will ease your mind
Like a bridge over troubled water
I will ease your mind
