Golspie Gala Week is the latest casualty of the coronavirus crisis.

Organisers have taken the decision to put preparations for the event, which was due to be held from July 25 to August 1, on hold.

But the management committee has held out hope that some events planned for the week may yet go ahead.

“If circumstances change, the Gala Committee will endeavour to pull something together nearer the time,” it said.

The Queen Dance is also being put on hold and no entries are being accepted for the Banger Derby.

Posting online, a committee spokesman said: “We hope you understand our decision. The health and wellbeing of everyone comes first.”

Meanwhile, some Sutherland communities are appealing for volunteers to help with supporting vulnerable residents.

Rosehall is drawing up a contact of people living locally who would be willing to lend a hand if needed.

Tasks would include shopping, picking up prescriptions or just a chat on the phone.

Anyone available is asked to message Rosehall Village Hall’s Facebook page or email Tracey Smit at: smiths6465@gmail.com

Rogart is also seeking volunteers to carry out similar tasks. The point of contact is the village’s PO Stores.
