syn. Betonica officinalis

Betony is a wildflower native to the UK. It was once widely used for medicinal purposes to heal everything from indigestion to depression. Today, it is most often used in bee-friendly gardens where the purple, lipped flowers are much sought after. This is an easy to grow plant that tolerates most conditions, but prefers moist-but-well-drained soil.

Fun fact: Betony was often planted in church yards to ward against ghosts.
