Selaginella Moss

Native to South Africa, Selaginella Moss (Selaginella kraussiana) is a great terrarium plant. Growing only a few inches tall, it spreads along the ground and forms a dense mat. This plant looks like a mix between a fern and a moss but is neither. It is considered a fern ally. It does resemble fern fronds with its branching green leaves.

Light: Medium to bright indirect light. Direct sun can burn and fade the leaves.

Watering: Keep evenly moist but not soggy. Never allow this plant to dry out.

Humidity: Thrives in high humidity. Add humidity with a pebble tray, humidifier, place in a kitchen or bathroom, or plant in a terrarium.

Toxicity: Non-toxic to cats, dogs and humans.

Potting Mix: Fast draining but also able to hold some moisture.

Additional Care: Brown and shriveled leaves indicates low humidity. Prune to control the size and growth of the plant. You can safely remove half the growth maximum without harming it.
