Sicklebush or Kalahari Christmas Tree (dichrostachys cinerea)

The name sicklebush comes from the fact that the seed pods are sickle shaped (although they often get very twisted and are clumped together with several other pods so this is not always obvious). It has numerous medicinal uses and is widely used throughout Africa.

Hairy Zygophyllum or Spekbos (zygophyllum pubescens)

With good rains at the beginning of 2021, there are lots of plants flowering in the veld. This is a dwarf shrub with pretty yellow flowers and slightly fleshy leaves. In drought conditions the plant loses its leaves.

Savanna Clover (oxalis purpurascens)

With good rains at the beginning of 2021, there are lots of plants flowering in the veld. This is an indigenous Namibian clover. The leaves look similar to clover but rather than oval, the oxalis has heart-shaped leaves.

Moringa ovalifolia or sprokiesboom (meaning fairy tale tree). We visited the 'fairy forest' near Grünewald in Etosha National Park in Feb 2020. The moringas seem to have taken quite a hit since our last visit, with far fewer than I remember. Some had large chunks missing from their trunks. Wonder if it is due to the terrible drought conditions throughout the last 6 years and animals using them as a source for food and water.
