Robert Indiana Inspired Geometric Art

Pop art is all about taking an image or word from popular culture and making it the focus of a bright, bold piece of artwork. Robert Indiana is a pop artist that is famous for his bright red sculptures depicting the word LOVE. You might have seen one of his love sculptures if you have traveled to New York, NY, Philadelphia, PA, London, England or Tokyo, Japan! In fact, Robert Indiana’s love sculpture can be found in over 100 places around the globe. Try out this cute and easy art project that combines geometric shapes to make the word love, inspired by the pop artist, Robert Indiana!

 
 

Procedure:

  1. Starting at the center of the short side of the construction paper, take a pencil and draw a line from one end to the other.

  2. Starting at the center of the long side of the construction paper, take a pencil and draw a line from one end to the other. Your paper should now be divided into four sections.

  3. Out of the second piece of construction paper cut the following shapes:

    1. One medium rectangle

    2. One circle

    3. One triangle

    4. Two small rectangles

  4. Now you will arrange the shapes in each section so that they create the word, LOVE:

    1. One small rectangle positioned in the top left section to create the letter L

    2. One circle in the center of the top right section to create the letter O

    3. One triangle in the bottom left section to create the letter V

    4. Two small rectangles in the  bottom right section to create the letter E

  5. Glue the shapes in place to create your Robert Indiana inspired pop art!
