Harpa Major is a marine gastropod in the family Harpidae, common known as harp snails. Their shell has strong axial ribs and a wide mouth. They do not have an operculum to close the shell opening.
Harp snails are found in shallow water to greater depths. They live in warm seas on sandy areas and capture carnal food there.
The large harp snail Harpa major grows up to 13 cm in size, but remains smaller on average at 10 cm. She is the tallest member of the family. It is distributed throughout the Indo-Pacific. Main food are crabs and crayfish.
Harpa major is collected because of its case and sold as decoration. Their flesh is eaten.
