arya s I love this genre, and just discovered Wallander, but must say, although the stories and production are first rate, Branagh's Wallander is the most unappealing of all the tv cops/detectives I've enjoyed. He doesn't seem to have any special mental/physical/ social/ emotional skills and isn't much to look at. He constantly mumbles, seems to be a poor leader among his peers and is usually inarticulate. His only identifying personality trait seems to be his depressiveness, which reviewers seems to interpret as existential angst. Now I'm curious to see the Swedish version and the original novels Kudos to the British for not imposing phony Swedish accents. The plots, direction, cinematography, pacing and scripts carry this series. The one burning question I have: why does Wallander have such a ridiculous cell-phone ring, like the entrance of a circus clown? Rated 4 out of 5 stars 03/30/23 Full Review Audience Member The life of a police detective. Generally boring, monotonous, and often introducing himself to strangers at awkward times. His time is rarely his own - and Branagh plays the part as well as Falk played Columbo. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 01/09/23 Full Review Audience Member Wallander is an incredible show in all aspects. The cinematography, directing, and acting are all superior, combining to create a dark and brooding atmosphere that constantly sucks the audience in. Kurt Wallander has got to be one of the unluckiest police detectives ever written as he seems to insistently face the ugliest and most heinous parts of police work not to mention numerous personal tragedies. Wallander (Branagh) is a realistically complex character that the audience gets to see every facet of. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/09/23 Full Review Audience Member He is perfect. Such great shows I wish they would do more seasons! Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/09/23 Full Review Audience Member I am not normally a fan of crime dramas, but Wallander is one of the most emotionally charged shows around.
