SOWING INSTRUCTIONS
Seed To Bloom:
12-16 weeks
Starting Indoors:
Start indoors 6 weeks before planting out after last frost. Keep at about 70°F.
Starting Outdoors:
Direct sow after last frost date or in fall in zones 8+. Sow in two week intervals until midsummer for continual bloom.
PLACEMENT & CULTIVATION
Native to California and Baja Mexico, tidy tips was first described in 1843 after plant hunters roamed the west. It grows happily in drier soils with lower fertility, and blooms enthusiastically, setting aglow borders, dry meadows, and path edges in summer.
Watering Details:
Keep moist until established, then water during dry spells. Drought tolerant, but may flower better with regular moisture.
Soil pH:
Not particular about soil pH.
Fertilizer:
If soil is poor, mix in a few inches of compost prior to planting.
When to Cut for Bouquets:
Cut when flowers freshly open.
