Why is Dan Biggar not playing for Wales at Six Nations 2024?

THE Six Nations gets underway next month and it's sure to be another entertaining tournament.

Wales will be looking to win their first Six Nations win since 2021, but they'll have to do so without Dan Biggar.

Wales were knocked out of the World Cup by Argentina in stunning fashion last year as they were beaten by Uruguay in the quarter-finals.

They will be hoping for a different outcome here, but doing so without one of their best players will be quite the challenge.

Why is Dan Biggar not playing for Wales at Six Nations 2024?

Prior to last year's World Cup, Biggar announced that he would retire from his international career at the end of the tournament.

Wales were hoping to reach the semi-finals at the very least, but they were unceremoniously dumped out at the last eight stage.

Argentina beat the Dragons 29-17 despite Biggar's best efforts to get Warren Gatland's side over the line.

"If I'm brutally honest I expected us to win that quarter-final, I don't think I was quite prepared for it to end so abruptly," Biggar has said since.

"When you lose in a quarter-final there's no hanging about for a third and fourth play-off. You basically pack your bags when you get back to the hotel and you check out and you're home within 24 hours.

"So for me it came as a bit of a shock and it knocked me for six a little bit.

"After everything I'd given to the sport for as many years as I had, I didn't really think that was how it was going to end.

"I remember just walking down the tunnel in the velodrome in Marseille after doing a lap and thanking the fans and that sort of hit me then because I knew that at that point there would be no more, that would be the last time that I'd walk back down a tunnel in a Wales shirt."

Biggar still plays for Top 14 club Toulon in France, however.

He also played for Ospreys and Northampton Saints throughout his long career.

Biggar will play some part at Six Nations 2024, as he will be a commentator and pundit for ITV during the tournament.
