Muehlenbeckia astonii (Mingimingi) Details

Muehlenbeckia astonii, commonly known as Shrubby Tororaro, Wiggy Wig Bush, or Mingimingi, is a NZ native shrub featuring densely interlaced branches. The wiry stems host small, bright green leaves and delicate, white flowers in summer. The flowers are followed by translucent berries in autumn which attract birds. It typically grows to 2.5 m high and 1.5 m wide and can be contained with trimming. Best results with this plant are achieved when it is grown in full sun or partial shade on a well-drained site. It is tolerant of extended dry periods, coastal conditions, moderate wind, frost, and cool climates. Muehlenbeckia astonii is commonly included in a mixed planting to provide contrast and texture. It is also ideal for growing as an informal hedge, particularly in coastal areas or places that can become dry. Shrubby Tororaro is popular with landscape designers across NZ.
