But club chiefs were mystified when he reported back after two days off with the blow.

Clarin Sports have now shed light on the situation by claiming that the 34-year-old striker tore his soleus muscle during a kickabout behind bars.

The incident is alleged to have occurred last Tuesday when Tevez visited his half-brother Juan Alberto Martinez at Bouwer’s maximum security prison in Cordoba.

And although there is no photographic evidence, the ex-Manchester United and West Ham hotshot enjoyed a game of football with his sibling and other inmates during the visit.

Even though the injury is believed to have now cleared, Clarin say that Boca were furious after they discovered how it was caused.

Tevez’s sibling is currently serving time for masterminding an armed robbery.

His brother-in-law was also jailed for his part in a raid which the duo wore police uniforms to target a security van.

They brandished rifles before running off empty-handed in the botched robbery.

Martinez was sentenced to 16 years in the slammer for the crime back in 2010.

Tevez returned to Boca in January after laughing off his £32m move to Chinese Super League club Shanghai Shenhua as a “seven-month holiday”.

Shenhua chairman Wu Xiaohui blasted the £615,000-a-week Argentine - who was even booed by his own fans - for being unprofessional and admitted signing him from Boca was a mistake.

Tevez scored just four goals in 20 appearances before returning to his old side.
