Tatler apologises to Downton Abbey’s Daisy Lewis for ‘upsetting and sexist’ caption that labelled her ‘probably fun in bed’
The lifestyle and fashion magazine wrote that Daisy was 'probably fun in bed' because of her 'loud' voice
RENOWNED lifestyle magazine Tatler has apologised 'unreservedly' to former Downton Abbey star Daisy Lewis for suggesting she'd be 'fun in bed'.
The actress told yesterday how she was upset by a caption in the magazine, which read: "As Daisy is quite small, you might be tricked into believing she's quiet. LOL. She isn't. This actress is LOUD. Which makes her fun at a party. And in bed. Probably."
Needless to say, Daisy wasn't amused, tweeting a picture of the offending words and writing: "I'm really shocked and upset by this. But thankfully I'm 'loud' enough to say it. Does anyone at Tatler read the news? #misogyny #loudwomen."
In response, the magazine tweeted: "Tatler apologises unreservedly to Daisy Lewis. We will also be publishing a full apology in the next issue.'
Daisy's followers were equally as shocked, replying to the actress's post: "That's AWFUL. I'm actually speechless.
"To think @TatlerUK thought you would be happy about this & take it as a massive compliment. This is why we still need to speak up. #Shame 😑
"@TatlerUK 1952 calling wanting their journalism back! #everydaysexism."
Daisy rose to fame playing the opinionated teacher Sarah Bunting in the hit ITV period drama.
Her storylines included being the who the love interest of Tom Branson (Allen Leech) .
Since then she has also starred alongside Michael Gambon and Lindsay Duncan in Churchill's Secret.
Last year she ended her romance with Steve Coogan.
According to the MailOnline, friends of the actress claim the Alan Partridge star has struggled to deal with his girlfriend's career soaring in recent months.
A friend of the actress told the newspaper that her becoming a star appeared to cause problems, claiming they saw him as "unsupportive" of her success.
The source added that her pals reportedly saw him as an "old-fashioned narcissist".
