LONG-TIME Neighbours fans were hit with a wave of nostalgia after soap bosses confirmed Annie Jones would be returning to the fictional suburb of Erinsborough.
But when exactly did the former bookworm turned model return and why is she back? Here is the lowdown...
Who is Jane Harris in Neighbours?
Jane Harris is a fictional character in Australian soap opera Neighbours.
Throughout her time on the soap, she held the nickname "Plain Jane Superbrain" for her early intelligent yet geeky image.
Originally portrayed as a mousy withdrawn role, the character underwent a dramatic makeover in a storyline with Guy Pearce's Mike Young.
Following this storyline, Jane turned into a heart-breaker and a model before she left fiance Des to be with her grandmother Nell whose health was rapidly deteriorating.
When did Annie Jones play Jane Harris?
Annie originally auditioned for the role of Charlene Mitchell that ultimately went to Kylie Minogue.
Annie was 19-years-old when she became a permanent cast member, after spending two months ringing the production company asking for a role.
The character first debuted on-screen during the episode broadcast on July 31 in 1986.
Jones initially left the show in September 1989 to pursue other projects before reprising the role for the show's 20th-anniversary episode.
When did Jane Harris return to Neighbours?
Jane returned to Erinsborough on Friday, April 6.
She is back to deal with some "unfinished business" as she attempts to "rectify her past".
On her return to Neighbours, Annie said: "I was absolutely thrilled to be asked to return to Neighbours".
"As an actor, the best thing you can be is a working actor. I've done a lot of guest roles but usually very short-lived, so this has been lovely to come back for an extended period and really get my teeth into a part."
Her first scene saw her interrupt newbie Chloe Brennan (played by April Rose Pengilly), while she attempted to seduce Brandon Danker (played by Nick Bracks).

When is Neighbours next on TV?
New episodes of Neighbours began in January on Channel 5.
The show was recently promoted to an all-year-round soap after a deal with FremantleMedia.
