There may be a hosting shortage in America, but Wanda Sykes has no intention of filling it. While appearing as a guest on a recent episode of Live With Kelly and Ryan, Sykes had a clear and concise response when asked if she’d emcee the Oscars again: “Oh, hell no.”

“I mean, I shouldn’t say it like that,” Sykes clarified after making the quip. She went on to tell Ryan Seacrest and Kelly Ripa that while emceeing Hollywood’s biggest night with Regina Hall and Amy Schumer was an honor, she doesn’t necessarily have an interest in doing it again. “I think it’s something that you want to do, you do it once. And I don’t know if I would want to do it again. It’s a huge job.”

Sykes did happen to cohost the most dramatic Oscar ceremony in recent history, which may explain why she isn’t champing at the bit to return to the gig. “It was just like, what is happening? Couldn’t believe it. Shock,” she said when Seacrest asked about her reaction to Will Smith’s notorious slapping of Chris Rock. “So everybody’s just going to sit here? It was like, the show just kept going on and I’d look [from] behind the curtain like, he’s still sitting here? What is happening? What is going on? It was crazy, it was just bizarre.” But despite the unfortunate incident, Sykes maintained that overall, the Oscars were “an amazing night” with “good vibes.”

Perhaps due to chaos of this year’s Oscar ceremony, the organizers of the 74th Primetime Emmy Awards are apparently having a rather difficult time finding a host themselves. NBC reportedly reached out to Rock and Dwayne Johnson, who both declined the gig. Now Deadline reports that the Emmys may be considering a host-less ceremony.

“Right now, Reggie [Hudlin, Emmys producer] and the Done + Dusted team are putting together some creative thoughts for us, and getting them to…us so that we can start looking at how we want to do this—with a host or without a host, and who would be the host,” TV Academy chairman and CEO Frank Scherma told the outlet. However, shortly after the story was published, the Television Academy provided a new statement to Deadline clarifying Scherma’s comments. “Television Academy Chairman Frank Scherma in no way meant to imply that a host-less ceremony is being considered,” the statement said.

So will the Emmys have a host or not? It sounds like a host-less ceremony is a last resort, but potentially still on the table. Sigh. Where’s Bob Hope when you need him?
