Populus simonii 'Fastigiata' is a medium-sized balsam poplar, originating in China, with a height of 10 - 15 m. The tree forms a reasonably straight trunk and is narrow columnar in its younger years. At a later stage the crown becomes broader. The leaves are dark green and more strongly obovate than those of P. simonii: they grow to 4 - 8 cm in size. The tree is dioecious. Sensitive to leaf spot disease, very sensitive to canker. Can be used in parks and public gardens and as an avenue and street tree. Reasonably resistant to wind. Winter hardiness zone: 4
