Name**:** Asa Butterfield

A****ge : 18 - Butterfield is in his final year of A-levels (Biology, Geography, Photography and, of course, Film Studies) at sixth form in Hackney

Homet****own : Islington, North London - though you'd never guess from the impeccable American accent he puts on for most of his films

The buzz: You might recognise Butterfield's striking baby blues from his captivating turn in Martin Scorsese's Hugo (2011), playing an orphan in 1930s Paris with Chloe Grace Moretz. The A-list co-stars have been mounting ever since - he last shared the screen with Hailee Steinfeld, Abigail Breslin and Harrison Ford in sci-fi blockbuster Ender's Game (2013). Now he's gaining critical attention too for his part in X + Y, an indie British drama about a gifted maths student.

Did you know? His middle name is 'Bopp' - a nod to the comet that was shooting through the sky when he was born

File next to: Skins-era Nicholas Hoult

Homework: X + Y is in cinemas now, but keep an eye out for Ten Thousand Saints, out later this year - Butterfield acts alongside Hailee Steinfeld again as the son of a drug-addicted father (Ethan Hawke) in 1980s New York. Next year he'll also take the lead in Tim Burton's latest film, Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children, with Eva Green.
