Sheerness lies just off the A249, providing easy links to the A2, M2 and M20 towards London, Dover and the south coast. The town’s nearest train stations are Sheerness and Queenborough. Sheerness provides services to London Victoria and St Pancras, with a change at Sittingbourne and journey times of approximately 90 minutes to two hours.

The fort at Sheerness was first built in naval times to protect the nearby port of Chatham. From the 18th century, Sheerness was home to a naval dockyard that closed in 1960.
