Jeffrey Tambor, the Emmy- and Golden Globe-winning star of transgender comedy-drama Transparent, will publish a memoir next year, publisher Crown Archetype announced Thursday.

Are You Anybody, described as a "funny and inspiring collection of autobiographical essays," is scheduled for a spring 2017 publishing date, said Crown, an imprint of Penguin Random House’s Crown Publishing Group.

Tambor will discuss his creative process and how he drew on lessons from his own life to create his most famous comedic roles on popular and critically acclaimed television series such as HBO’s The Larry Sanders Show, Fox's Arrested Development and Amazon’s Transparent.

Tambor, 71, won an Emmy and a Golden Globe for his portrayal of Transparent's Maura, who transitioned from Mort, the Pfefferman family patriarch.

Tambor, who describes himself as a "fat kid with a lisp in a Hungarian-Jewish family,"  will share "introspective, humorous stories" of his career, his colleagues, the pain and exhilaration of auditions, the fear of success, and his own personal struggles to connect with audiences, according to a Crown statement.

“Books and theater saved me," Tambor said in the statement. "I am thrilled to be publishing my first book with Crown. I look forward to sharing the stories and lessons from my life that have shaped the characters I’ve played, and how those characters have helped shape me.

"Some stories will be awkward, others inspiring, some dark, most funny, and all will, I think, be hopeful and instructive.”

Tambor recently joined other entertainers and musicians speaking out against "bathroom bills," recently enacted or proposed in southern states such as North Carolina, that seek to force transgender people, including children, to use only public bathrooms that correspond to the gender on their birth certificates.
