Sanyo made desktop and handheld (pocket) calculators between 1966 and the early 1980s.

Sanyo - History

Toshio Iue founded the Sanyo Electric Works in 1947. He acquired an abandoned Matsushita factory and began manufacturing bicycle lamps and generators. In 1950, Sanyo Electric Co., Ltd was established. Sanyo quickly expanded into domestic appliances and consumer electronics.

Sanyo's introduced its line of ICC-xxx" intergrade circuit calculators around 1966. Many of Sanyo's early calculators were fitted with "Candica" battery packs due to Sanyo's pioneering work on rechargeable battery technology.

Sanyo faced economic challenges in the 2000s. Panasonic acquired it in 2012.

Sanyo Calculators - Identification & Value

Modern electronic calculators divide into two basic types: (1) desktop and (2) handheld (pocket) models. Desktop electronic calculator collectors focus on pre-1980 models. Handheld (pocket) calculator collectors extended their interest to pre-1990 models.

Sanyo built an extensive range of desktop and portable calculators. The Sanyo ICC-1416P printing calculator (1971-1973) is an example of an early desktop model. Other models include the CY-2131 and CY-3031.

The Sanyo DK-141 was introduced in October 1966. In 1971, Sanyo introduced its ICC-0081 Mini and ICC-82D, a sizeable portable calculator. They had four functions, an eight-digit tube display, flip-up cover, and rechargeable batteries. It retailed for $425.  Sanyo also made its ICC802D, a smaller unit for Dictaphone, which was sold as the Dictaphone 1680. Sanyo's ICC-804D was listed as the Dictaphone 1681.

Sanyo handheld models included the ICC-802D, ICC-804D, ICC-805, ICC-807D, ICC-808D, ICC-809, ICC-1122, ICC-1123, ICC-1417, CX-0102, CX-1032, CX-2002, CX-2520 Amorphous Solar, CX-6000, CX-8001B, CX-8002, CX-8003A, CX-8016 Mini, CX-8100, CX-8102, CX-8105, CX-8131, CX-8136, CX- 8136NE, , CX-8185LR, CZ-3, CZ-1210 Amorphous Solar System, CZ-2122, CZ-2171, CZ-8106, CZ-8127, and CZ-8132
