Meditation on THAXTED

A pensive treatment of the hymn tune “Thaxted” (a.k.a. – O God, Beyond All Praising). The work is undergirded by a repeating figure, not unlike a Passacaglia but in the left hand, rather than the pedal, over which the melody is first presented. It is then interrupted by a free section of rhapsodic strings, followed by a return to the opening figure, albeit with a twist: now the melody is presented in canon, at the same octave (canon between the right hand and pedal at 4’ or 2’ pitch).

The PDF on offer here is actually sized to A4, however will print just fine on US Letter. Unique to some Serviam Scores editions: there are empty circles in the score at choice moments which are provided as convenient places to mark piston numbers.
