Lochinver, Sutherland, Highlands of Scotland

Lochinver is a coastal village and fishing port in the north-west of Scotland in county of Sutherland. The village has wonderful views of the nearby Suilven with its distinctive rounded top making it one of Scotland’s best known and easiest to recognise mountains. Lochinver has a harbour that services the busy fishing industry with its fish market, along with a small marina for boats and yachts. The traditional village and the nearby community area of Baddidarrach, all around the shoreline of the sheltered Loch Inver. The village is very picturesque with its traditional houses, bridge and the river Inver.

Holidays in Lochinver provide an opportunity to explore and fish the hundreds of small lochs that are found in this area. Many of these lochs involve trekking over moorland to get to them, all the lochs are full of native wild brown trout. The area is rich in wildlife and birds along with scenic drives to the sandy beach at Achmelvich, and the beautiful scenic coastal drive on the B869 around Clachtoll, Stoar, Clashnessie towards Unapool and Kylesku bridge. The road is single track and can be relatively busy in summer months. It is recommended you bring midge repellent cream / sprays and if planning to spend a lot of time outdoors a midge face net can help during the summer months when walking or fishing, or other outdoor activity.

The area around Lochinver is one of our favourite areas in the Highlands of Scotland and if you decide to have a holiday in the vicinity you will be rewarded with experiencing one of the most remote areas in Scotland. Camping sites are nearby and holiday cottages are also available.
