The victims of the horrific Carluke car crash are a mother and her three young kids, a local councillor has claimed.
We told earlier today how a woman and three children were in hospital after they were hit by a car outside Aldi in the South Lanarkshire town this afternoon.
A massive fleet of 10 ambulances rushed to the scene on James Street at its junction with Kirkton Street, at around 3.07pm following reports of a serious accident.
All four casualties are being treated at the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital in Glasgow, but the extent of their injuries are currently not known.
Now it has emerged the victims may be a mum and her children aged just seven, four and three years old and that they are in a 'serious' condition.
The mum is believed to be in her 20s.
Conservative Clydesdale West Councillor Poppy Corbett took to social media in an attempt to reassure locals by coming forward with further information.
She wrote on Facebook: "We are aware from Police Scotland and media sources of a serious road traffic accident in Carluke that took place shortly after 3pm.
"A mother and her three children (aged 7, 4 and 3) have been taken to hospital where we understand their condition is serious.
"At this time we do not have names so cannot confirm what school/nursery the children attend.
"You will appreciate that this is a Police Scotland led incident and if we get further information we will share this with you.
"This is absolutely heartbreaking news. I hope and pray that everyone is ok."
Councillor Corbett told the Record the information had come to the council from Police Scotland.
She added: "I would only say that this is a terrible tragedy and I hope and pray that they all make a full and speedy recovery."
The A73 was closed between Glamis Avenue and Clyde Street while the scene was examined.
Màiri McAllan, the SNP’s MSP for Clydesdale, tweeted her hopes that the victims were okay.
The Minister for Environment and Land Reform wrote: "I am deeply worried about reports from Carluke this afternoon.
"My team have been in touch with police offering all our support.
"I want to thank the emergency services on the scene and in the meantime am, like everyone, praying for good news that no one is seriously hurt."
A Police Scotland spokeswoman refused to confirm the identities or ages when approached by the Record.
Inspector William Broatch, from Motherwell Road Policing Unit, said: “Around 3.10pm, police were called to James Street in Carluke, at the junction with Kirkton Street, following a report of a road crash involving a car and four pedestrians - a woman and three children.
"The pedestrians are all being conveyed to hospital for treatment. Emergency services remain at the scene and local diversions are in place. Anyone with information on the incident can call police on 101, quoting incident 2110 of 27 October.”

“One female in her twenties and three children have been transported to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital, Glasgow.”
