Castleton Vermont Jun 4, 2022

My favorite subjects are often familiar haunts that I suddenly “see” for the first time, or in a new way.

Driving down Main St. in Castleton recently, I pulled over to consider this view. Thankfully I had my gear and I was set up to paint in minutes.

Of note on this painting, I returned a few days later to continue work on location rather than finish in the studio. That was a first for me. It won’t always be possible or practical, but I’ll do it again when I can. There’s just nothing like being there.

Thank you very much for all the positive feedback on last week’s informational post. Onward and upward!

Original Painting Sold. Next post Monday, June 20.

  • Beautiful picture and beautiful area. I lived in the second house behind you for many years. My son lived there until he passed away from cancer in February. Lots of memories, Castleton is a great little town. Thank you for catching some of its beauty.

Another beautiful painting! I totally understand the benefits of being able to complete a painting “on site”. A photograph can serve as a valuable tool, but never captures the spirit of the actual location in quite the same way. Unfortunately for the artist, the rain, snow, bugs, heat, and more are the price to be paid .
