Inverness has topped a league of the most culture-rich places in Britain.

Researchers found that the Highlands city had 11.26 cultural attractions per square mile. Stirling came fourth with 9.31, after Bath with 9.38 and Durham with 10.28. Carlisle in Cumbria, which has a population of 108,000, was found to have the least, with 0.09 cultural attractions per square mile.

Staff at the online ticket-selling platform Ticket Source analysed 6,771 attractions, including historical sites, gardens, museums, art galleries, concert halls and theatres across 68 cities.

London was excluded from the list because it has 1,600 cultural attractions per square mile.

Edinburgh was found to have 3.63 cultural attractions per square mile, Glasgow 3.56 and Aberdeen 3.69. Scotland was found to be the most culturally rich
