All eyes are on Ruthin. This handsome, historic town is a jumble of medieval and Victorian buildings on winding streets leading off the grand hilltop market square. At its centre is the grade II* listed 16th-century property known as Seven Eyes, for the seven windows poking out from its sloping roof, soon to reopen as a restaurant.
The town has been unusually skilled at putting its period properties to modern uses, such as the Wetherspoon pub in the Castle Hotel, plus the 600-year-old former courthouse that’s now a community hub, cinema and co-working space; an old bank that’s home to a re-use store that sells and recycles unwanted goods; the Market Hall that runs food and craft markets, evening events, a café and a community
