It gives to the Irawadi at Prome a character whichrecalls the vineyards of the Rhine. The fruit of Burma, however, as of thetropics at large, is the plantain or banana {hngeppydw-thi). Many varietiesare cultivated, some of them very delicate. The plantain is propagated fromsuckers; after fruiting in the second year, the plant dies.
