RFHNFG00–This painting, titled 'Mowing Bracken,' was done by the English realist rural landscape painter Henry Herbert La Thangue (1859-1929). La Thangue belonged to the Newlyn School. In France he came under the influence of the French plein air school of painters, whose methods strongly influenced his work. Indeed, all his pictures are painted out of doors. He painted direct from nature, by placing his model in the actual scene of the picture. 'Mowing Bracken' may be regarded as a study in autumn time. It was exhibited in the Royal Academy in 1903.
